Give your kid something he or she can grow with and will hold its value. It is much more than a student horn for the price of a student horn. It has a beautiful sound-different from my Selmer Mark VI but surprisingly rich. I have owned this since 1978 and it's from the late 50s or early 60s. It’s a great “Second Line” horn, it’s basically a Aristocrat Series 1 with a lot of the fancy decorations taken off and possibly slightly thinner body brass. This one’s body is incredibly straight and the original lacquer is about 97% and the key action is all perfect and I can get out a low Bb despite an obvious leak from the neck cork which needs to be replaced, it’s there, but so smashed the horn in is playing a bit sharp right now. The only thing this horn needs is a couple new pads and one or two springs and neck cork.
